What is the KAZA Visa?

You should be aware of the new KAZA Visa if you’re traveling to the Victoria Falls region and want to explore the neighboring countries of Zimbabwe or Zambia.  The KAZA Visa allows entry into participating countries with one visa. Instead of buying individual visas for Zimbabwe and Zambia the KAZA Visa allows entry into both countries with this one visa.

The Victoria Falls area is a popular hub on the southern Africa safari circuit and for good reason.  Victoria Falls is centrally located where 5 countries meet and of course is home to one of the greatest waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls (see my previous post on Victoria Falls).  Besides the Victoria Falls, this region offers spectacular game parks and the KAZA Visa simplifies the border crossings.

If you’re in the town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe for a few nights you want to take a day trip to the Zambia side of the Falls with KAZA Visa you will not have to buy a separate entry visa for Zambia.  Or if you’re staying in the Livingstone, Zambia area and you want to cross the Victoria Falls bridge to explore the Zimbabwe side of the Falls, a KAZA Visa will save you from buying a Zimbabwe visa.  As a Zimbabwe single entry visa is $30 and a Zambia single entry visa is $50, the KAZA Visa will save you time and money.

The KAZA visa allows holders to travel for an unlimited number of times between Zimbabwe and Zambia (within a 30-day period), provided you do not cross over into other countries such as Namibia, Angola, South Africa or Mozambique (day trips to Botswana are acceptable).

The KAZA visa is available upon arrival in Zimbabwe or Zambia and the cost is $50 per person.  Some border posts will accept credit cards but the machines may not be working and lines can be long.  Instead bring US cash (newer, clean bills) to purchase the visa.  The visa will take a full page of your passport so make sure you have enough blank pages (and at least 2 extra pages) to cover visas for all the countries you’ll be visiting.  NOTE: Please be aware the availability of the KAZA visa cannot be guaranteed so be prepared to buy separate Zambia and Zimbabwe visas.  See the official site for more information.
