Highlights of Kenya

When you think of Africa, most likely you're thinking of Kenya. This is where the safari was born with the grand expeditions of Roosevelt, Hemingway, and Karen Blixen. Kenya is the quintessential safari destination where you'll experience all the classic images of Africa.
Kenya is the land of vast plains brimming with wildlife. Enormous herds of wildebeest, prides of lions, and elephants roam the Masai Mara. Rare species such as the gerenuk and Rothchild's giraffe can be found in Samburu at the base of Mt. Kenya, a snow-capped peak towering over 17,000 feet. In Amboseli, families of elephants graze the marshes with Kilimanjaro looming in the background. Millions of pink flamingos can be seen breeding in the alkaline Lake Nakuru along with rhinos and buffalo. That's just the interior. The Swahili culture and beaches of the blue Indian Ocean make for a fantastic end to a classic Kenya safari.
Besides abundant wildlife and stunning landscapes, Kenya is home to colorful and diverse cultures. The Maasai, Samburu, Kikuyu and Swahili people add a new dimension to any Kenya safari. Chances are a visit with the traditional and modern Kenyan people will be the highlight of your safari.

Highlights of Kenya Safari
Your adventure begins in Amboseli National Park at the foot of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. The mountain dominates every aspect of the park and you can get the best views of the snow-capped peak from Amboseli. With an excellent variety of wildlife, Amboseli is a great place to get close to large herds of elephant. You'll return back north to Aberdare National Park in central Kenya. Along with mountainous scenery and forested landscape cut by deep ravines and crystal-clear streams, the Aberdare's are a good place to see rhinos, antelopes, various primates, and 250 species of birds.
Continue to the Samburu National Reserve, an arid region with rare species such as the reticulated giraffe and long necked gerenuk. You'll also witness colorful Samburu herders bringing their cattle to the river. Sitting in the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru National Park is your next stop. The lake is home to flamingos, hippos, buffalo, and many types of birds.
Finally, your journey concludes with a visit to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa's greatest wildlife refuges. Game viewing is spectacular year-round but after the rains, millions of wildebeest arrive for the fresh grazing. Large prides of lions, elephants, giraffes, and cheetah can all be spotted in the reserve.
