Western Tanzania

Visit the Remote Katavi & Mahale Mountain National Parks

This 8-day safari will take you to two of Tanzania’s most remote, least known, and seldom visited national parks. This itinerary is perfect if you’re looking for a safari that is truly off-the-beaten-path and without the crowds of Serengeti or Ngorongoro. You’ll visit Katavi and Mahale Mountains National Parks, both with very different landscapes and wildlife.

Katavi National Park is in the far, southwestern region of Tanzania.  This rugged national park is one of the least known, but most exciting wildlife areas in East Africa.  This park is the third largest in the country and is home to the world’s largest herds of buffalo. It boasts a wide array of bird and animal life, including leopard, elephant, zebra, lion and the densest hippo and crocodile populations in the country.  You’ll explore this vast landscape on game drives and bush walks.

Mahale Mountains National Park sits on the shoreline of Lake Tanganyika, one of Africa’s largest and deepest lakes. Mahale is home to some of Africa’s last surviving wild chimps, and trekking in search of these endearing primates is one of the main attractions of the reserve.  You can also hike Mount Nkungwe, search for wildlife on walking safaris, or snorkel in the clear waters of the the lake.

This privately guided safari, perfect for families or a group of friends.

We can customize this itinerary for you to create a truly unique safari.
