Kalahari & Okavango Safari

A Green Season Safari through the Wilds of Botswana

The “Green Season” is a special time of year to visit Botswana.  By December the rains have finally arrived transforming the dry, dusty bush into a green, lush wonderland.  Wildlife takes advantage of this bounty as they gather in large herds to give birth.  Predators stalk the herds in hopes of an easy meal.  Zebra and other plains game migrate south from the Chobe region to graze on the fresh grass of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  Birds show off their colorful breeding plumage, joined by migrants escaping the northern hemisphere’s winter.

On the Kalahari & Okavango Safari, you will journey through the Kalahari Desert, visit the endless grasslands of Nxai Pan and Makgadikgadi Pan in search of the zebra migration, search for all the classic African game in the Moremi Game Reserve, and glide across the Okavango Delta in a traditional dugout canoe.  Accommodation will be in lodges for 2 nights and luxury camping for 8 nights.  Space is limited to 7 guests per departure (1 minimum).

We offer 3 departures dates for this extraordinary safari and the 2021 departure dates will be available in July 2020.  We expect to offer this safari in mid-Jan, early Feb, and early March 2021.

Meno a Kwena Lodge is about a 90-minute drive south east of Maun.  Perched on a 100-foot high clifftop overlooking the Boteti River, Meno a Kwena offers some of the best ‘armchair’ game viewing around.  Their nine classic safari tents are classically-styled, with a few eccentricities thrown in here and there; think locally-woven fabrics mixed with colonial-style furniture, and simple fittings brightened by snippets of color. All have fully-equipped en-suite bathroom.

Camp Kalahari is located on a private concession bordering Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. This traditional bush camp in the style of the old explorers, has ten spacious Meru tents, comprising six twin tents, three double tents and one family unit. All Guest tents have ensuite covered bathrooms, hot and cold running water and flush loos along with four poster beds, crunchy cotton sheets, rich textiles, Moroccan kilims.

Mobile Camping Accommodations:  A mobile safari is just that-mobile!  We carry all our supplies with us and camp in remote, private, and unfenced campsites.  You'll be joined by a professional guide and a team of camp assistants who will do all cooking, setting up camp, and other chores.  All you need to do is relax and enjoy the Botswana wilderness!

The tents are spacious, walk-in, Meru style tents with 2 windows and a small front awning. Each tent is supplied with bedding (camp beds, bedroll – mattress, pillow and sheets, duvet, blankets and towels) and en-suite (attached to your tent) bathroom with covered door, bush toilet (long drop), bucket shower and small table, mirror, hand wash basin.
