WHAT TO EXPECT ON OUR SAFARIS...
GrassTrack Safaris offers a wide range of safari options. We can arrange extensive trips where you'll visit the diverse landscape of northern Botswana or shorter safaris concentrating on the famous game areas of Chobe and Moremi. Regardless of your interest we're committed to ensuring your African safari will be safe and rewarding. Along the way we'll explore some of Africa's best game parks. You'll experience nature close-up as we camp in the wilds of the African bush and make our way along rough tracks and backroads searching for game. This is a mobile camping safari with accommodation in tents (and occasionally hotels). You'll spend a night or two at various locations providing lots of time for game watching.
 Depending on the itinerary of your safari you will fly from Johannesburg to either Maun, Botswana, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, or Livingstone, Zambia where our guide will meet you for the start of your safari. Our fully licensed professional guides are based in Maun and their priority is to ensure you have safe, enjoyable and educational safari. They have years of experience guiding in northern Botswana and are always eager to share their knowlegde of the wildlife, birds and natural history of this spectacular region.
The roads throughout the parks are typically rough so transport will be in 4X4 Land Rovers. Our safari vehicles are open providing each client with wide views and plenty of space for photo equipment and personal gear. Our safari vehicles are fully supplied with all necessary camping gear: tents, sleeping pads, cooking gear/fuel, spare tires, and repair equipment.
A typical day consists of a 6am wake up call, a 6:30am light breakfast and we are out looking for game at 7am as the sun is rising. On participation safaris you'll take down your tent and help pack up before departing for the game drive. We'll spend a few hours on a game drive, some bird-watching, or photography before stopping for a break. Following our morning game drive, we'll return to camp for some lunch and rest before heading out for another late afternoon game drive. On days when we are moving to a new campsite we'll break camp and stop along the way for lunch. We're back in camp around 6:30 pm as the sun sets for cocktails and appetizers. A tasty, fulfilling dinner is served accompanied by fine South African wine. Following dinner we gather around the campfire reliving the stories of the day and listening to the sounds of the night before retiring to our tents. As the campfire dies away, you'll drift asleep to the sounds of the African night.
Typically we'll spend a day or two at each location before heading to our next destination. We try to minimize long driving days, but depending on the itinerary we will have some days of long driving. This will provide time for watching the beautiful African landscape pass by or for catching up on some reading. Distances may not be too long but road conditions don't allow for fast driving.
Most nights will be spent in rustic campsites with few amenities. Toilets are long-drop latrines and bucket showers (filled with hot water). In Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve we will stay at unfenced, wild campsites. There are no stores so we must carry in all our supplies (this is the African wilderness after all!). However the possibility of an elephant wandering by your tent or a noctural leopard visit will surely make up for the lack of running water!
At the end of the camping safari you have the option of spending a few days relaxing at luxury game lodge in the Okavango Delta or adding a few days at the Victoria Falls.
